We decided to base our film at our school because we knew the area well and had a lot of places in mind that we can film in. As you may have seen a school building can be a spooky setting for a horror film for example, The Expelled(2013) and The Substitute(2008). We feel that the school itself provides a very spooky setting and creates a tense effect as if the school buildings are derelict and have not been upgraded since the original school was built a number of years ago. We had originally planned to film at night but we soon realised that we could gain a spooky effect from filming in the day as well as using some extremely dark rooms.
Another location that we decided to film at was outside with the camera focused on a car. We decided to film a scene showing a kidnapping actually happening because we felt that it would give the audience a sense of fear. The fact that the victim being thrown into the car can actually be seen will ensure that the scary feel of the OTS continues throughout. Nobody would want to see a kidnapping in real life as it would clearly make a lot of people feel uncomfortable which is exactly why we have decided to film one, to suit the whole sequence as being one that would want to be watched, the best horrors are the ones that keep the audience uncomfortable and on edge.
